Natural cleaning products and pregnancy ideas that will protect you from harmful affect

reducing chemicals for fertility, cleaning products and pregnancy

Many of the chemicals found in our everyday cleaning products are linked to fertility issues. Luckily it is really easy to swap our products to more natural ones and reduce our exposure. Here are some tried and tested suggestions for chemical free cleaning. All you need to do is stock up on white vinegar, baking soda/bicarb soda (these are the same thing) and clove oil. I found it really easy once I’d bought myself 3 spray bottles and put my bicarb soda into an old pepper container which is open on one side and has holes on the other. This lets me sprinkle it when needed.

White distilled vinegar

  • For a multipurpose spray mix 1 cup of vinegar, 1 cup water, 1/2 tsp of eucalyptus or tea tree oil into a spray bottle and shake before use. This can be used for cleaning most surfaces like your fridge, kitchen benches, window seals, walls and bathrooms (BUT NOT WOOD).
  • Spray full-strength vinegar to kill bathroom germs and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
  • Sprinkle some bicarb soda around the toilet bowl with about 10 drops of eucalyptus or tea tree oil. Pour some vinegar over the bicarb soda watch it fizz and then give it a good scrub.
  • Wash fruit and vegetables with 2 tablespoons of vinegar mixed in 2 cups of water to remove pesticide residue, then rinse with water thoroughly.
  • Descale a kettle with equal parts vinegar and water, boil, let sit for 30 minutes, then tip water out and rinse the inside of the kettle twice to remove any vinegar residue.

Baking Soda

  • Mix with a little water and use as you would any gritty cleaning product. Great for cleaning bathtubs, sinks, BBQs or anything else which could use a scrub.
  • Sprinkle into the toilet bowl on top of white vinegar and clean as usual.
  • Add 1 cup to your usual laundry liquid/powder to whiten your laundry and eliminate odours.
  • Remove baked-on food in pots and pans by putting a generous amount of baking soda around the residue, add hot water and dishwashing detergent and let sit for 15 minutes before cleaning.
  • Brighten your floor by mopping with 1/2 cup of baking soda in a bucket of warm water.

Clove oil

  • Add a few drops of clove oil to warm water and wipe down your walls and bathroom with it. Also remember to open up your doors and windows to help dry out your environment and prevent mould growing.
  • Remove mould by mixing 10 drops of clove oil, 14 drops each of lavender and tea tree oil and 2 cups of water into a spray bottle. Shake it well, spray onto the mould, leave for about 20 minutes. Then come back and spray with you multipurpose cleaner and wipe or scrub the area with wet cloth or brush. I then spray the area again and leave it for about 24 hours to stop the mould growing back. Remember using bleach whitens but doesn’t kill mould and living with in our houses mould can be really detrimental to our health.
  • The best way to prevent mould is to ventilate your house so it doesn’t grow. Open windows and doors whenever possible to to dry out your bathrooms or other areas where mould is growing. If this isn’t possible or just isn’t enough you could consider buying a dehumidifier.
